“I’ve Got Water” – What To Do Immediately

BE PREPARED TO KNOW HOW TO RESPOND IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY/FLOOD SITUATION

Fresh Water Flood (from leaks, bursting pipes, washing machine overflows, hail or rainstorms):

Shut off source of water immediately.  You may need to shut off main water supply temporarily.

Contact a plumber to fix pipes and stop leaking.

Attempt to drain or pump out excess water as quickly as possible.  The longer water stays, the more problems that can occur with rotting, damage to walls and furniture.

If there is standing water, beware of electrical problems.

All Floods:

Have excess water expertly removed by a certified, professional restoration company immediately.  Attempting to use a portable rental unit will not have sufficient extraction to remove all the moisture from the affected areas.  Professional drying equipment will eliminate all moisture.  It is also imperative to have all the affected areas sprayed with a microbial disinfectant to reduce harmful bacteria and eliminate odor problems.

Move valuables, heirlooms and salvageable goods to a dry place.
